The 9th Life of Louis Drax is an upcoming supernatural thriller based on Liz Jensen's best-selling novel of the same title. Jamie Dornan will co-star in the film alongside Sarah Gadon and Aaron Paul, with Alexandre Aja set to direct. Also starring are Terry Chen, Anjali Jay, Julian Wadham and Aiden Longworth. Max Minghella has penned the script adapted from the book, marking his screenwriting debut.[1][2][3] Joining Dornan, Paul and Gadon in supporting roles are Oliver Platt who plays Louis Drax’s psychologist, Dr. Perez; Molly Parker as Detective Dalton; Barbara Hershey as Louis’ grandmother, Violet; and Aiden Longworth in the title role of Louis Drax.[4][5]

The 9th Life of Louis Drax is a Canada/USA/UK co-production.

Plot

The story begins on Louis Drax's 9th birthday, when a lifetime of curious mishaps culminates in the boy's near-fatal fall. Dr. Allan Pascal (Jamie Dornan) searches for the strange circumstances behind the young boy's accident and dark coincidences that have plagued his life.

Marking his screenwriting debut, Max Minghella has written the feature screenplay based on Liz Jensen’s best-selling novel of the same title. The novel was first optioned in 2004 with plans to be adapted and directed by Anthony Minghella.

The 9th Life of Louis Drax is produced by Tim Bricknell and Minghella of AntColony Films, Shawn Williamson of Brightlight Pictures and Alexandre Aja. The film is executive produced by Rosanne Korenberg.

Principal photography began on Monday, October 27 of 2014 in Vancouver, Canada. Zanne Devine, Executive Vice President, Production and Development, is overseeing the project on behalf of Miramax. Sierra/Affinity serves as the international sales agent.
