Thomas Lee Maggard (February 7, 1950 – September 9, 1973) was an American professional baseball player. The catcher and first baseman was the first-round draft pick, 20th overall, by the Boston Red Sox in the 1968 Major League Baseball Draft after starring at John Glenn High School, Norwalk, California.
The 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m), 215 lb (98 kg) Maggard played for five seasons (1969–73) in the Red Sox farm system. Just after his only Triple-A season, with the 1973 Pawtucket Red Sox, Maggard died suddenly from an allergic reaction to an insect bite.[1] He was 23 years of age.[2]
