The R12 is a line of Rodalies de Catalunya's regional rail services, operated by Renfe Operadora. It runs northwards from Barcelona, passing through the inland Alt Penedès region. The line then continues towards central Catalonia as far as Lleida, describing a U-shaped route through the Catalonian area.
R12 trains use the Meridiana Tunnel in Barcelona, where they share tracks with Rodalies de Catalunya's Barcelona commuter rail service lines R1, R3, R4 and R7, as well as Girona commuter rail service line RG1, calling at Sants, Plaça de Catalunya and Arc de Triomf stations.[2] For its entire length, trains operate on the Lleida–Manresa–Barcelona railway.
The line originally was known by the name Ca4b, as part of the Catalunya Expres, which is MD line 33. Together with lines R11, R13, R14, R15, and R16, the R12, is considered one of the first lines of the Rodalies regional rail system for Barcelona.[3][3]
