The 2015–16 season was Carlisle United's 111th season in their history and their second consecutive season in League Two.[1] Along with League Two, the club will also compete in the FA Cup, League Cup and League Trophy. The season covers the period from 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2016.

The 2015–16 Football League Two (referred to as the Sky Bet League Two for sponsorship reasons) is the 12th season of the Football League Two under its current title and the 24th season under its current league division format. The season began on 8 August 2015, and will conclude on 7 May 2016.[63]

Twenty-four clubs are participating, eighteen of which remain in League Two having been neither promoted nor relegated at the end of the 2014–15 season. These teams will join Notts County, Crawley Town, Leyton Orient and Yeovil Town, who were relegated from 2014–15 Football League One, and also by Barnet and Bristol Rovers, who were promoted from the 2014–15 Football Conference.

FA Cup
